This is leaving out the whole mailing list concept, or do you consider that separate from social media?
I do think it’s a bit unreasonable to refuse on principle to join a particular social forum and then complain that you miss the things which are happening there
Maybe if you're refusing on principle, but not if you can't deal with the interface on a reasonable level (Facebook, I'm looking at you). More and more people I want to stay in touch with have moved to Facebook, but no matter how hard I try, Facebook's interface hates me and wants to make me feel stupid.
