Typo inspired neologism
Jan. 14th, 2007 10:54 pmI type very well, though you'd not know it to chat with me on IM.
So I'm having a conversation with
rslatkin about relationships, and particularly long-distance ones. I pointed out that I haven't actually started a non-LDR in over 15 years, though it wasn't on purpose. I wrote: "I don't seek out LDRs. i don't tend to seek relationships at all. i tend to meet people, get to know them, eventually realize there's a lot of connection, and the relationship just evoloves."
Now, "evoloves" was a typo, but it's just begging to be a word, so I thought about it and formulated this:
Evolove (v): undergo the process by which a friendship turns into a romantic relationship over a period of time, often without the direct effort or intention of the parties involved. :)
I've been happy with the way things have been evoloving in my life recently.

Date: 2007-01-15 04:05 am (UTC)I used to say that was how I work, but my last few relationships have come on really suddenly. It doesn't fit with my self-image, though, so much so that I almost chimed in with a "me, too" that really doesn't apply. Weird.

Date: 2007-01-22 11:03 pm (UTC)*groan* That's how my current-&-beloved husband & I fell in love; & tho' evolove is lovely & unexpected, it certainly can complicate your life at least in the short run. See, I found myself becoming fascinated with him while I was still engaged to my previous-&-beloved sweetie... & neither one was willing to co-exist with the other.
Still, I evoloved my former sweetie too, as well as my first husband come to think of it. I think you've hit on a very useful shorthand for what a lot of folks do! It really seems like the only reasonable way to sneak up on a relationship involving great trust & longing. I'm sorry, love at first sight doesn't make any sense to me even tho' I'm a hopeless romantic (partly due to folkmew). Now lust or infatuation at first sight -- that's a different story....! ;-)
