Lo, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Livejournal
I shall fear no spoilers; for thou art finished;
Thy series and thy ending, they satisfy me.

Which is to say....stayed up Way Too Late™ last night finishing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Thoughts later.

Yeah, it satisfied me. The ending told me what was important; that life went on, the shadow had passed from the land, and a new generation would carry on the traditions that our heroes fought so hard to preserve, etc, etc.

Given that almost anything Rowling actually resolved for certain was going to leave at least some segment of her fans upset, why make concrete anything that isn't especially important to you? Leave the holes for the ficcers to enjoy. :)

It worked for me. When I closed the book, I thought "Yes, that's good. I approve of it."

My thoughts exactly!
I loved the ending very much. Whatever they did afterwards, what education or profession or path they chose for their lives, they are leading a good live.
(I was so afraid that JKR would kill Harry! And when Dumbledore told Snape that Harry had to die - I could hardly stand it. I never felt that strong about a fictional character before, I think, and I doubt that another ever will.)

Thank god. I was beginning to feel I was drowning in "wahhh she didn't do what *I* wanted" reviews. I actually decided today to just quit reading anyone's comments on the book, because it seems like people have forgotten how to just enjoy something...

...or perhaps I need a little more sleep. :)

Sleep is good. On the other hand, there *has* been a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth. What's interesting, though unsurprising, is that *what* people are complaining about is largely different.

I had much the same reaction to the book as I did to the Doctor Who Season 3 finale ("Last of the Time Lords"); there was much that, if i examined it closely, falls apart, makes no sense, or is just too absurd. But none of that mattered AT THE TIME. It was emotionally satisfying to my inner-10-year-old, and, honestly, is that what it's about, really?

A Declaration

"our heroes fought so hard to preserve, etc, etc."

My first thought was John and Ben fumbling for words before Tom stands up and says something Very Profound. :)

Maybe I should read one of these books some day? (:-/

Mainly the epilogue reminded me of fanfic. :P
