I saw this great quote from Stephen Koontz, and it just made me think about the way I tend to fall in love.

I found there was value in allowing my feelings towards them mature and grow into the shape they wanted to grow, without regard to whether there'd be some sort of relationship context for them to occur in. Love is never an obligation. Love is always a gift.
