Discussing covers with my friend Jeff:

autographedcat: I have an entire album consiting of bluegrass covers of AC/DC songs

JTW RCCC: Yeah, I've heard Hayseed Dixie before :-)

autographedcat: :-)

JTW RCCC: Dolly Parton's cover of "Shine" infinitely improves on the original

autographedcat: yes, it does

autographedcat: i found her cover of Stairway to Heaven less essential, though it was a competant cover

JTW RCCC: And, of course, Trent Reznor will never be able to play "Hurt" again thanks to Johnny Cash

autographedcat: heh.

autographedcat: I always wanted to hear Trent Reznor cover "Afternoon Delight" by the Starland Vocal Band

Oh, I would pay good money for that one. That would be quite the cover wouldn't it.

Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins did a great cover version of Fleetwood Mac's Silver Spring which is quite lovely itself.

Really? I remember their cover of "Landslide", but I haven't heard that one....do you have a recording you could point me at or send to me?

Landslide, that's the one. I'm sorrry, I'm tired and misremembering. Its his cover of Landslide I like so much. Someone else did a so-so cover of Silver Spring but I can't remember who it was at the moment.

Somewhere, and if you are lucky I will never find it again, is a cassette tape of Jon Anderson and me trying to out highnote each other on the final chorus of "Afternoon Delight." Can you say, "key of dogwhistle"? I knew you could....

Also, is the "Shine" you are saying Dolly covered the one by Mike Oldfield and Jon Anderson? If so, that is something I'd love to hear.

No, it's the song by Collective Soul from a few years back. Worth listening to, though. (Both versions).
