First you cast your line into the river.

And then you wait.

Uh-huh. [NODS]

What do you do when you notice that the part of your line that was below water level has now completely dissolved away?

Contemplative fishing, in the Mirabilan style.

*snicker* Wonder what percent of people in the SF community know that reference.

And what _has_ Kagan been up to lately, anyhow?

Nothing that I've heard of. But when I saw her at Bucconeer she was rather frail, I hope she's OK...

If this is Janet Kagan you're talking about, author of *goes and checks* Uhura's Song, I've noticed that name credited as script editor on Will and Grace...might not be the same one, of course.

I don't recognise the reference.

Why, attempting to make the world I have the world as I would have it, of course.

Reminds me of a folksy cartoon(?) I saw once. An image of an old man sitting under a tree on a riverbank
and holding a homemade fishing pole, line dangling in the water. Captioned "Sometimes I sets and thinks,
and sometimes I jes sets". Which may have nothing at all to do with what you wrote. :)

Good things come to those who wait, so I'm told. Have you read my user profile lately? -H...

That's what I am hoping. Of course, it was the philosopher Thomas Petty who said "The waiting is the hardest part." :) *hug*
