What a fantastic game. Well fought by the Yankees, but the Sox hung in there. Some fantastic defensive plays, some great pitching, and a nailbiter to the end.
Obviously, I'm extraordinarily pleased with the results, but I have to tip my hat to the Sox.. They played quite a series, and deserve a ton of credit.
It is said that given an assertion, there are certain types of proof which, rather than strengthening the assertion, weaken it. The best example would be the statement "all humans are less than 100 feet tall." Generally, it's easy to see that it's true. But if a man grew to 99 1/2 feet, there would be some serious doubt to the strength of the assertion, despite that his datum continued to prove its truth.
So with this game, and this series (and all these playoffs), and the Curse. Classics, engraved now forever in memory.
This morning, I hung a picture of the Cigarette Smoking Man (from The X Files) outside my cubicle, with a thought balloon reading, "As long as I'm alive, the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox will never win the pennant."
